“Vortex of the Great Unknown” is a lively musical that takes place in Dimension 317 – a place where the human brain has evolved to a point that it now believes it has no need for sensory awareness.  As a result, senses (sight, sound, taste, smell, touch) have atrophied and are no longer utilized or valued. The degeneration of the senses results in a cultural decline with a host of societal problems. The play is set in a science laboratory with a team of scientists possessing “super senses” (aka “synesthesia”) which allow them to  "hear flavors" and "taste colors."  The team races against time as an impending solar storm (known as the “Vortex of the Great Unknown”) threatens to consume the entire dimension.  The production is set to an original score, composed by Serenity Fisher, arranged and directed by Jacob Priddy.

In addition to Serenity, “Vortex of the Great Unknown” cast includes Torie Wiggins, Dashiell Waterbury, Whitney Argadine as well as Gregory Lawson, who plays a unique character that uses American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate portions of the story. It also incorporates video featuring Jeff Burkle and Derek Stockwell.

Fisher and Kissel have co-written two Fringe pieces in the past, "Sophie's Dream" in 2010 and "Opal Opus: Journey to Alakazoo," in 2011. Both shows won the "Audience Pick-of-the-Fringe" Awards.
